Geekvape Aegis Boost 3 Review!
Welcome to the Geekvape Aegis Boost 3 review. I am Dan. I’ve had a lot of devices over the years, from huge cloud machines to itty bitty pod devices. I’ve vaped on refillables, disposables, and even dabbled in making my own juice. Needless to say, I have quite a bit of experience with vaping. Few devices get me excited to test out. When I saw that we were thinking about getting the Aegis Boost 3 on our shelves for December, I got excited!
The Aegis line of Geekvape products is designed for real life. They are all IP68 rated, so they can take a bump or two, they aren’t afraid of water, they aren’t timid around dirty places. When you get an Aegis, you know it’s built to last. I’ve had my devices fall off of work vehicles and land on concrete floors at my old workplaces, which would make even the mightiest of devices explode into tiny pieces. Not my Aegis though. I just pick it up, dust it off, and it’s ready for use again. Geekvape Aegis products are something I’ve always looked for, even before I worked at Canada Vapes, and I’ve owned many of them. All of them still work.
Geek Truly Does Know Better!
Geekvape as a whole has always had the mantra “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” The Aegis series has never really strayed from its formula; build a solid device, surround it in a rock-solid shell, and put it to market. One of the things that I have always wished Geekvape would implement is some sort of childproofing feature. I have kids at home, and if my vape gets into their hands, it could be a serious issue.
The last iteration of the Boost, the B100 (silly name, should have just been the Boost 2…) had a toggle switch on the side, which when it was new, worked fantastic, but once you used the device for a while, it would loosen up. More than once the toggle switch would shift to the on setting, and the button would get depressed in my pocket, or my cupholder in my truck. This would cause the device to activate, and if the device was on long enough, it could burn up a coil.
Innovation Right Where It Is Needed!
Not anymore! The Aegis Boost 3 has a hold-to-activate feature! Called Smart Lock, the device is in “locked” mode when there are no hands on it, and when you hold the device in a natural way, with your hand on the leather pad and your thumb on the button, it unlocks for use. It’s not 100% perfect, but it is quite responsive. In my time with the Aegis Boost 3, I have had nothing but positive praise for it. It is natural for adults to hold, but my small-handed children can’t reach around the device to make contact with the leather pad and the button simultaneously.
The Smart Lock technology CAN be disabled, which is something I would usually disable on a device because it can be a pain to use, but since this one is designed so well, I have no reason to do that. It works perfectly.
Good To Hold, Excellent Build Quality
The device is also a joy to use. The Geekvape Aegis Boost 3 is a relatively cheap device in the vaping world, but it doesn’t feel cheap at all; quite the opposite. I’m not sure what it’s made of, but Geekvape is calling it a Tri-Proof Casing. With the casing and the great, big 3000mAh battery, this isn’t a light device. It’s not overly heavy either. It feels amazing in the hand, compared to other Aegis devices as well. If I had a complaint about the previous Aegis devices, it would be that they use a lot of hard edges, and aren’t comfy to hold. This iteration though has a nice, soft rubbery coating on the back, with a harder shell.
There is a metal frame that keeps the rubbery coating in place and a gorgeous colour screen to show you the device’s vitals. It has a few different colour options on the screen, as well as a nice cloud animation when you take a draw. The screen is also slightly rounded to add to the comfort of the device. The up and down buttons for wattage are flush with the screen, and the activate button is nice and tactile, you know you’re pressing it.
Feels Like You’re Taking A Bite Out of Your Liquid!
Next, we’ll talk about vapour production and flavour. The Geekvape Aegis Boost 3 makes it in spades. Personally, I prefer a nice dessert vape. My favourite juice that we make, Twisted Pomme, is a delicious Apple Fritter e-juice. This device puts out the flavour on par with any of my other favourite tanks I have, large or small, as well as any of my hand-made tanks that I make the coils myself. It literally tastes like biting into the apple fritter, every puff. These coils seem to last longer than previous models as well, I’ve put a lot of puffs on this device and still, I’m using the same original coil. I’ve also tried a few other select favourite flavours, and every time the results are the same.
Huge Pods on a Small Device
The pod is quite large and holds 5ml of juice. It has a slider on the front to control the airflow, which is a huge plus in my opinion. They have redesigned it from the B100, which in my opinion had too much airflow, and would kill the flavour. The Aegis Boost 3 is slightly smaller, and where it’s located it seems to provide a great, smooth draw, but not enough air to reduce the flavour.
Another pro is the mouthpiece, which I don’t think gets enough recognition. The B100, and most refillable kits on the market, either feature a round 510 tip, or they have some kind of proprietary rounded tip. The Aegis Boost 3 takes the benefits from the 510 and adds the comfort of the rounded flat tip. This is similar to devices they’ve released in the past, but in my opinion, it’s definitely the nicest drip tip on the market. Unfortunately, the connection to the pod is proprietary, and they only include one.
Fortunately, the Aegis Boost 3 pods are replaceable and sold separately from the device. There is a simple rubber door on the pod to facilitate easy pod filling as well. You don’t even need to take the pod out!
What’s inside the Tri-Proof Casing though?
They stuffed some brilliant stuff inside this package with this device. Firstly, we have the all-new AS4.0 chipset. This provides a beautiful display, as well as 6 firing modes. Smart mode will allow you to use a certain range of watts based on the coil, making it foolproof so you don’t burn the coil prematurely. Power is the traditional mode, with a full sweep of 5-60 watts, which is the maximum for this device. Boost mode is for the crazies, it fires at max wattage. Eco mode will keep the device at a relatively consistent wattage, extending the battery life. Lastly, it provides a TCR mode. (More on this later.) It also contains 5 different display themes, so you can make your screen match your device. I use the black device with the white screen, it looks pretty sweet.
It’s also packed with a 3000mAh battery. During our Aegis Boost 3 review period, I used the 0.6 coil at 20W. I get a solid 2 days between charging, which is more than ample for me. Your mileage may vary, as lower-resistance coils will use more battery power.
The Verdict?
The Geekvape Aegis Boost 3 is AWESOME! It is an excellent device for new users and veteran vapers alike. The 0.6 coil heads are very good for nic salt, while the 0.2 coil head works great with traditional juice. Geekvape took an already excellent product, and made it that much better, innovating where it needed improvement, and leaving features that worked alone. I can definitely recommend it to our customers wholeheartedly! If you’re in the market for a new device, the Aegis Boost 3 is definitely a contender for one of the best devices we carry!
